I call it “slime”, but what it truly amounts to is something like ARMORALL or the many similar products that people spread on their saddles, tires, etc. My advice is to just say “no.” on your bike’s saddle, you will slip all over the place. Used on grips or tires, well, it’s a lubricant and come the day it falls, you won’t be happy.

There are treatments which work well and don’t impart a shine to tires, rubber covers, etc. General rule is, “if it shines, don’t use it.” What then? I use a number of products. GRIOT’S GARAGE markets some advanced products to enliven rubber or vinyl without an unnatural shine. VINYL & RUBBER DRESSING, LONG-LASTING TIRE DRESSING and as a last ditch try, BUMPER and TRIM RECONDITIONER. Finally, one that’s inexpensive and works well and can be found almost anywhere is “BLACK CHROME cleaner/sealant by TURTLE WAX. Don’t be afraid to use a tooth brush to clean excess or in the tread areas.
