Description
These are main parts for the Vincent Black Lightning clutch. Included are Vincent parts no. C1/1, C3/1 and C24/1, which are the pieces needed for the racing clutch. The remainder of a Lightning clutch is made up of parts also used on the regular Rapides and Black Shadow models.

Condition
These are original parts. The Ferodo friction plate, C 24/1 is new, while the other two parts are in excellent condition though used briefly.

History
The original post-war clutch designed for the Vincent twin is very strong, designed for approximately 100 hp. However, Phil Irving redesigned it to meet the needs of the first Black Lightning, the JOHN EDGAR LIGHTNING when, in mid-1948 he was given the task of producing the racer by PCV. It differs substantially from the regular clutch in that the main unit, C1/1 used 5 large lugs to bear the loads rather than the 10 smaller ones which had sometimes broken. The friction disc is green, FERODO friction material as opposed to many small inserts of cork material. C3/1 is lightened.

Parts offered are from the residue of the US Vincent Parts inventory, once held by INDIAN SALES CORP. and then by Harry Bellville of Ohio.
